Dr. Mariam is a prominent global health advocate. She has expertise in Health, Economy, Women Empowerment, Peace and Conflict, and Development work. At present, she works to bridge the gap in engagement between academics and policymakers. Dr. Mariam brings a wealth of experience having worked with national governmental institutions and international multilateral organizations. Dr. Mariam is a regular speaker at international forums such as the Africa International Health Conference in Kigali 2019, G7 Health Professionals meeting in Japan -2019 Oxfam Youth Conference in Hague, Netherlands – External speaker at King’s College, Department of Nursing (2021 & 2022)
Dr. Mariam has a long and distinguished career in advocating for the rights of women, and girls as she closely works with Women-led organizations and movements. She assumes leadership roles for a number of forums and is currently chairperson of the Youth Anti-FGM movement in Somaliland with the mission to End FGM. Dr. Mariam is also a member of the Somaliland Medical Association, the Coalition of African National Medical Association, and the Women in Global Health Forum, which are movements for gender equality in global health leadership.
On the academic front, Dr. Mariam has a Master’s in Health care management at International Telematic University UNINETTUNO, Masters in Developmental Studies at the University of Hargeisa, and a Graduate Certificate in Project management, Monitoring, and evaluation at AMREF-Kenya, as well as an Advanced HIV Treatment at Infectious Disease Institute (IDI) of Makerere University in Uganda. Dr. Mariam also published several papers. With the following titles “ Learning How to swim in Social Media as Activist” three magazines published, Women in leadership and the fate of women ‘s movement.
