In partnership with the University of Burao, the Institute for Strategic Insights and Research (ISIR) held a Civic Forum in Burao on Friday, 25 April 2025. The forum was a follow-up event to feature the Somaliland 2025 budget discussion. In March 2025, the Institute released its annual budget analyses that have been looking into the first budget developed by the new government of Somaliland compared to its predecessor. The event brought together participants from academia, government officials, the business community, civil society groups, and youth groups.
The aim of the event was to enable communities in Togdheer region to unite, recognize their role in the GDP and government revenue, and advocate for their equitable participation in national priorities and plans.
The ISIR Civic Forum is an open platform acting as a catalyst for change, and it is hosted and organized by the Institute for Strategic Insights and Research (ISIR). The Civic forums are known to invite policy practitioners, academics, and thought leaders to discuss current affairs and propose suggestions for improving policy issues.
This Civic Forum seeks to stimulate reflections on the status quo through a series of open discussion forums for citizens across the Horn of Africa.
